Part of the Untold Story collection.
Once upon a time there was a castle-factory.
And the rulers of the castle-factory were the king and queen.
And there was a princess in the castle-factory. She loved exploring, and spent her days jumping from castle tower to tower. She was unafraid and very strong.
One day, the princess discovered a secret. It was this large hole in the top of the tallest tower, with six weird, glowing yellow orbs around it and wind coming up out of the hole. The hole faded into darkness, so the princess could not see where it ended.
Realizing that the flow of air was strong enough to push her out of the hole if necessary, the princess jumped into the hole, chanting the magical words of protection of her kingdom. However, the magic in the words summoned the shadows of the hole and created two ancient, gigantic, warring monstrosities of darkness. The monsters slipped out of the hole and began to destroy the castle.
Due to the fact that she had jumped into the hole while the magic was being cast, the princess was changed too, when she was thrown out of the hole by the powerful wind. She had grown a pair of feathery wings on her back and a light dusting of scales on her skin. She had become a being to combat the darkness – and perhaps the only person capable of fighting off the monsters.
Meanwhile, the knights of the castle sounded the alarm and the king and queen rushed to a secret not-so-secret hanger underneath the castle and hopped onto this gigantic mecha robot thing. The princess tagged along too, for she had summoned the darkness and she wanted to fix what she had done wrong.
Her parents made her promise never to go jumping into random holes ever again, and then the three set out to do some monster hunting.
The princess fell into the hole, again. Not by choice, though. The gigantic evil monsters shot down the mechabot. While the king and queen went (what noise do you make when you die?), the princess was able to spread her wings and sort-of fly away. She landed in the hole, giving her enough time to realize what had just happened, and then she fled into the woods, afraid of drawing unwanted monster attention to any other person she loved. She discovered an abandoned cottage in the woods that turned out to be not-so-abandoned, as a hunter and his dog-goat-deer-thing lived there. The princess befriended them and told them her story, and then the three went to the hole to undo the spell. The princess jumped into the hole, chanting the magical words backwards this time, and the two gigantic evil monsters of darkness screeched in pain as they were sucked back into the hole for (hopefully) the rest of time.
The hunter and the princess became King and Queen, and then they lived happily ever after. The End.
